The MAXAM METAL story

In 1945, Bert and Clara Wise co-founded MAXAM's parent company Collingwood Heating and Sheet Metal Ltd. Bert and Clara built the business around their family values of respect and hard work, providing a solid foundation on which the business operated within Vancouver.

In 1959, their son William and daughter-in-law Yvonne Wise bought Collingwood Heating and Sheet Metal Ltd. and continued their legacy to ensure the success of the company. In 1970, William recognized the demand for fire dampers and refocused the business to concentrate on the construction industry. After 19 years of experience in all phases of the sheet metal business, MAXAM METAL PRODUCTS LIMITED was established. MAXAM recognized the need to adopt a factory direct philosophy as well as a need to sell through select distributors in order to offer superior customer service. The company used its extensive experience in sheet metal work, coupled with its solid reputation, to emerge as a leading producer of metal products for the construction industry.

MAXAM purchased the Van-Met access door line, a door line preceded by 50 years of experience. This acquisition was a great opportunity to provide the construction industry with a diverse quality product line. When Van-Met non-rated access doors are installed in the same building along side Van-Met fire-rated access doors, uniformity of design is maintained.

MAXAM today

Now, MAXAM is a recognized and respected manufacturer of non-rated and fire-rated access products, having had numerous products tested and listed over the past 30 years under the Intertek (Warnock Hersey) certification mark. MAXAM also continues to sell through select distributors while endorsing a factory direct philosophy to ensure superior customer service.

To complement our standard product line, we manufacture crafted metal products made specifically to meet our customers' unique requirements. MAXAM is continually striving to meet the needs of its customers through its diverse products. MAXAM was the first in North America to design a fire-rated floor door line in a one, two, three or four hour fire rating. Another first is the availability of an upward opening fire-rated ceiling door in a two or three hour fire rating. MAXAM also offers the largest fire-rated floor door with a temperature rise, and the largest ceiling or wall door in single or double leaf construction, in a wide range of fire ratings.

In addition to non-rated and fire-rated access doors, MAXAM's diverse product line-up includes roof hatches, floor doors, fire-rated floor doors, louvers, ladders, custom braking, shearing, welding, and a line of balance dampers, aluminum back draft dampers and fire dampers. Note: Not all products are listed due to the ongoing development of MAXAM's product lines.
