  1. How long has MAXAM been in the metal fabrication industry?

    MAXAM was established in 1970 and the parent company Collingwood Heating and Sheet Metal Limited was established in 1945. The Van-Met registered trademark (abbreviation for Vancouver Metal Products) was founded in the 1940’s. For more information see: About Us.

    Since 1970, MAXAM’s skilled craftsmen and technical experts have designed, manufactured and provided crafted metal products to meet the needs of architects, engineers and contractors in the industrial, residential, commercial, institutional, marine, and pulp and paper communities.

    At MAXAM we offer a complete selection of Non-Rated Access Doors, Uninsulated and Insulated Fire-Rated Access Doors, Roof Hatches, Floor Doors, Fire-Rated Floor Doors, Louvers, Ladders, Safety Accessories and a line of Dampers. Van-Met access doors are manufactured in a wide range of fire ratings, models and sizes, and fire tested to comply with both U.S. and Canadian product safety standards.

  1. Are MAXAM’s products fire-rated?

    MAXAM carries many fire-rated products. All fire-rated products featured by MAXAM have been tested and listed under the Warnock Hersey certification mark. The Warnock Hersey certification mark with a “c” and “us” signifies compliance with both U.S. and Canadian product safety standards. MAXAM’s Van-Met fire-rated access doors and MAXAM’s fire-rated floor door line carries this logo.

  2. What is Warnock Hersey?

    Warnock Hersey Professional Services Ltd. is now owned by Intertek. Intertek is the world’s largest product and commodity testing organization, providing certification services for fire testing and certification of a wide range of building products to critical nationally recognized standards. Products listed will bear one of the ETL or a Warnock Hersey certification mark. Multiple Intertek locations have met the requirements of CFR 1910.7 to be recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the U.S. Government as Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) for certain equipment and materials. Intertek is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as a Certification Organization (CO) and a Testing Organization (TO). In addition, Intertek’s testing and certification programs are recognized by the three model building code agencies: BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI. Intertek’s Building Products and Certification Programs are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In addition, states, provinces and local jurisdictions have accredited or recognized Intertek’s Certification Programs. Details of Intertek’s accreditations may be obtained by contacting the Accreditation Department. The name Intertek is protected in various forms and configurations, and the Warnock Hersey Certification Marks are registered in the United States and in Canada as certification marks for use on products which comply with standard requirements. Products that are evaluated, found to comply with specific standards and meet the requirements of the Certification Agreement are eligible to bear the appropriate ETL and / or Warnock Hersey certification mark. Look for the ETL or WHI certification mark on the product.

    MAXAM was the first company in Vancouver to fire test with Warnock Hersey, and we have enjoyed an ongoing working relationship with it since 1970.

    When Van-Met non-rated and fire-rated access doors are installed in the same building, uniformity of design is maintained. This unique feature ensures an architecturally pleasing appearance.

  6. What is MAXAM’s warranty policy?

    MAXAM reserves the right to alter the details or design of its products without notice. We guarantee all products to be free from defects in workmanship and material for a time period of one to five years from date of shipping, depending upon the product. Our liability is limited solely to the replacement of goods not complying with this guarantee, or at our choice, a credit of the paid purchase price to the original buyer.

  7. What is our sales / return policy?

    Based on prior approval, returned goods are subject to a 25% handling charge. Products must not be damaged. Goods must be returned within 30 days of the shipping date. All special sized products and models are non-returnable and cannot be cancelled once the order is in progress. MAXAM will not accept returned merchandise freight collect. Any product(s) to be returned must have an R.G.A. number and are subject to inspection upon arrival at our facilities before any credit will be issued.

  8. What is the difference between MAXAM METAL PRODUCTS LTD. and Van-Met?

    MAXAM METAL PRODUCTS LIMITED is the company name and Van-Met is the registered trademark for MAXAM’s non-rated and fire-rated access door line.
